Basically, we went out to this restaurant called Buffalo Wings & Rings. This place is legitimately the most American place I've seen in Amman so far. The menu is completely in English and the types of food are as American as you can get - wings (obviously), burgers, steak, nachos, fries, etc. They even had some of my favorite appetizers like spinach&artichoke dip. So it wasn't surprising at all to learn that they were staying open pretty much all night for the Superbowl. There are also TVs at pretty much every angle in there, so this place was truly the place to be if you wanted to watch the Superbowl in Amman.
I'm not really sure why I decided to be absolutely insane and stay up for the entirety of the game on Sunday night (since we have a 7 hour time difference, the game started at 1:30 AM here), but I think I just got a little homesick at the idea of missing pretty much the only football game I watch every year.
The place was absolutely crowded with Americans, most of them CIEE students. There were some Jordanians that stuck it through the night as well, which I was very impressed by. But overall the experience was super fun. We ordered really cheap, but delicious wings and some beer and had an extremely American-style night. There was a T-Shirt give away, but I unfortunately didn't win won (it would've been awesome if I did). When the game started, everybody got up for the National Anthem and sang along and there were huge cheers when both teams walked out onto the field. I think that was the coolest part - we had so many people rooting for both teams, that I would say it was a pretty even amount for each. It made the game a lot more fun to watch.
All of this made the majority of us a little home sick, but it really was super fun. The only thing that was different is that we didn't get to see the infamous Superbowl commercials - that was slightly disappointing. Other than that, though, the insane exhaustion I felt throughout my 4 classes the next day was very much worth it. It really was an non-American American experience..
Otherwise, everything is going well. I have a crazy amount of homework that just keeps piling up... trying to catch up on that as well as sleep have been my priority the last couple of days. But I still have a lot to look forward to! On Thursday night we have the engagement party in our family that I am beyond excited for! After that, we are going on our first CIEE trip on Friday to Wadi Rum and Petra! Sooo looking forward to that. Those three days are definitely going to be fun.
Ma'a salama for now!
